My not so young parents, who were buried in books till about 5 years ago, now use their phones more than I do. I, in fact, feel like removing all my social media applications and taking a break from the World Wide Web, while my parents just can’t get their hands off of technology.

In the morning, I actively try to limit my usage of my mobile, while they have replaced their morning newspaper routine with a round of social media apps — starting with Facebook, Instagram and even Snapchat. Who even sends snaps to my parents???

Just as in my childhood days, they used to try to restrict my usage of my phone, it is I who has to ask them to limit their usage now. I have recently put a time restriction on some of the social media apps on my mother’s phone. At the end of each day, I check her usage of the apps, only to realise that — just as a child would — she has learned to rebel. She has cracked the code to extend her app limit now!

Ah, mon Dieu, how roles have reversed! It is true what they say, it’s a cycle of life, one you can’t escape. Even more so with technology aiding and fastening the process.
